Description

WaterHog Modular Tiles — Scalable Entrance Flooring Without Glue

When standard entrance mats aren’t large enough, WaterHog Modular Tiles provide a scalable solution that covers any size area. The interlocking tile system links together easily — no glue, no adhesive, no professional installers required.

Each tile features the signature WaterHog bi-level surface that scrapes dirt and debris while trapping moisture below foot level. Reinforced rubber nubs prevent pile crushing, and the 200-mil cleated rubber backing keeps tiles firmly in place.

The modular design means you can replace individual worn or stained tiles without removing the entire installation — a major advantage over glued-down flooring.

Key Features

No-Glue Installation — Tiles interlock mechanically. No adhesive required for most applications. Install, reconfigure, or remove without floor damage.

Scalable Coverage — Build any size installation by linking tiles together. Cover lobbies, vestibules, elevators, or entire entrance corridors.

Individual Tile Replacement — When a tile becomes worn or stained, remove and replace just that tile. No need to replace the entire floor.

WaterHog Performance — Bi-level waffle surface scrapes dirt and traps moisture below foot level. Holds up to 1.5 gallons of water per square yard.

Crush-Resistant — Reinforced rubber nubs maintain pile height even under heavy foot traffic.

Anti-Static Surface — Solution-dyed polypropylene fabric is anti-static, stain-resistant, and won’t fade or rot.

Heavy-Duty Backing — 200-mil SBR rubber backing with universal cleats (20% recycled content) provides stability on any floor surface.

Directional Arrows — Arrows printed on tile backs ensure consistent pile direction across the entire installation.

Coverage Calculator

18″ Tiles (10 per case = 22.5 sq ft coverage):

Installation Size Tiles Needed Cases Needed
3′ x 3′ (9 sq ft) 4 tiles 1 case
4.5′ x 4.5′ (20.25 sq ft) 9 tiles 1 case
6′ x 6′ (36 sq ft) 16 tiles 2 cases
9′ x 9′ (81 sq ft) 36 tiles 4 cases

36″ Tiles (4 per case = 36 sq ft coverage):

Installation Size Tiles Needed Cases Needed
6′ x 6′ (36 sq ft) 4 tiles 1 case
9′ x 9′ (81 sq ft) 9 tiles 3 cases
12′ x 12′ (144 sq ft) 16 tiles 4 cases

Add border pieces for finished edges. Each straight edge needs side borders; each corner needs one corner border.

Border Calculation

Borders provide a finished beveled edge for non-recessed installations.

Example: 6′ x 6′ installation with 18″ tiles

  • Tiles: 16 (4 x 4 grid)
  • Side Borders: 12 (3 per side × 4 sides, minus corners)
  • Corner Borders: 4 (one for each corner)

Example: 9′ x 9′ installation with 36″ tiles

  • Tiles: 9 (3 x 3 grid)
  • Side Borders: 8 (2 per side × 4 sides, minus corners)
  • Corner Borders: 4 (one for each corner)

Installation Instructions

Step 1: Plan Your Layout Measure your installation area. For wall-to-wall installations, find the center point and work outward in all directions.

Step 2: Check Arrow Direction Each tile has a directional arrow printed on the back indicating pile direction. All arrows should point the same direction for consistent appearance.

Step 3: Connect Tiles Link tiles together by pressing the interlocking edges firmly. Build rows to achieve your desired width, then connect rows to achieve length.

Step 4: Add Borders (Optional) For non-recessed installations, connect corner borders to all four corners, then fill in side borders along each edge.

Step 5: Secure Borders (High Traffic) If heavy traffic is expected across border edges, glue borders in place with solvent-free adhesive (sold separately) for added stability.

Wall-to-Wall Installation: Cut tiles to fit against walls using a utility knife. Start from center and work toward walls for balanced appearance.

When to Use Borders

Installation Type Borders Needed?
Recessed mat well (flush with floor) No
Surface-mounted on hard floor Yes — provides safe transition

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need glue to install these tiles?
No. WaterHog Modular Tiles interlock mechanically without adhesive. Glue is only recommended for border pieces in high-traffic areas.

Can I replace a single tile if it gets damaged?
Yes. That’s one of the main advantages of the modular system. Simply unlink the damaged tile and link in a replacement.

What’s the difference between 18″ and 36″ tiles?
Both have identical performance. Larger 36″ tiles mean fewer seams and faster installation for big areas. Smaller 18″ tiles offer more flexibility for odd-shaped spaces or tighter curves.

Do I need borders?
Only for surface-mounted installations where you need a safe beveled transition to the surrounding floor. Recessed installations (mat well) and wall-to-wall installations don’t require borders.

How much water can these tiles hold?
Up to 1.5 gallons per square yard — the same as standard WaterHog mats.

Which way should the arrows point?
All arrows should point the same direction. This ensures consistent pile direction and appearance across the entire installation. The specific direction doesn’t matter, just consistency.

Can I use these in a recessed mat well?
Yes. WaterHog Modular Tiles work in both surface-mounted and recessed applications. For recessed wells, you may need Rubber Spacers (sold separately) if the well depth doesn’t match the tile thickness.

Are these anti-static?
Yes. The solution-dyed polypropylene surface is anti-static.

Can I cut tiles to fit?
Yes. Tiles can be cut with a utility knife for wall-to-wall installations or to fit irregular spaces.
