Rubber Spacers — Level WaterHog Tiles in Recessed Wells

When installing WaterHog modular tiles in a recessed mat well, the well depth doesn’t always match the tile thickness exactly. If the well is too deep, tiles sit below the surrounding floor — creating a trip hazard and an unprofessional appearance.

Rubber Spacers solve this problem. Place spacer sheets beneath the tiles to raise them to the correct height, bringing the tile surface flush with the adjacent flooring.

When You Need Spacers

Recessed Mat Well Installations: Recessed wells are cut into the floor at building entrances to create a flush transition between the mat and surrounding flooring. If the well depth exceeds the tile thickness, spacers fill the gap.

Example:

• Well depth: 3/8″ (0.375″)
• Tile thickness: 1/4″ (0.250″)
• Gap: 1/8″ (0.125″)
• Solution: One layer of 1/10″ spacer + slight compression, or trim as needed

Multiple Layers: Spacers can be stacked if needed. Use multiple layers of 1/10″ or 2/10″ sheets to achieve the required height adjustment.

Installation Instructions

1. Measure the gap — Determine the difference between well depth and tile thickness.
2. Select spacer thickness — Choose 1/10″ or 2/10″ sheets, or plan to stack multiple layers.
3. Cut spacers to fit — Lay spacer sheets in the well and trim to match the well dimensions. Standard scissors or a utility knife work well.
4. Place spacers in well — Position cut spacer sheets flat in the bottom of the recessed well.
5. Install tiles over spacers — Apply solvent-free adhesive (sold separately) and set tiles on top of the spacer layer.
6. Verify height — Confirm tile surface is flush with surrounding floor before adhesive sets.

Rubber Spacers are designed for recessed well installations where height adjustment is needed. Surface-mounted tiles typically don’t require spacers unless you’re leveling over an uneven substrate.
