The PET Advantage

ColorStar uses PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fiber made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. But sustainability isn’t the only reason we chose PET:

Stain resistance: PET fiber naturally resists staining far better than nylon. Coffee, soda, mud — they wipe away instead of soaking in. This means your mats look professional longer between cleanings.

Fade resistance: ColorStar uses disperse-dye technology that builds color into the fiber itself. Unlike surface-dyed materials, the color won’t fade from sunlight, cleaning, or commercial laundering.

Durability: The same properties that make plastic bottles tough make PET carpet fibers resilient under heavy foot traffic.

Every 3’x5′ ColorStar mat diverts approximately 25-30 plastic bottles from landfills.

ColorStar vs Classic Solutions: Which Carpeted Mat?

Both are excellent Zone 3 wiper mats with cut pile construction and similar weight (23 oz/yd²). The difference is fiber type:

Choose ColorStar when stain resistance and sustainability matter most. Choose Classic Solutions for traditional nylon performance or specific color matching.

Backing Options Explained

SBR Rubber (48-mil): Budget-friendly option for standard commercial use. Contains 20% recycled rubber. Available with smooth backing for hard floors or cleated backing for carpet. Important: SBR backing cannot be commercially laundered.

Nitrile Rubber: Oil-resistant and dimensionally stable. Required for commercial laundering programs.

Choose nitrile if your mats will be exposed to oils or grease, if you plan to commercially launder your mats, or if you need maximum lay-flat performance in high-traffic areas.

Important for Laundering: PET yarn has an affinity to retain oils. For facilities with grease or oil exposure, follow M+A’s specific laundering chemistry guidelines — start with 2 oz detergent per cwt and 1 oz alkali per cwt. Consult your chemical supplier for heavy-soil applications.

Note: Mat sizes are approximate. Rubber expands and contracts with temperature changes. Manufacturing tolerance is ±3-5%.

Cleaning Instructions

ColorStar mats can be cleaned in several ways:

1. Vacuum regularly — daily in high-traffic areas; weekly in lower-traffic applications
2. Extract or hose off as needed to remove heavy soil
3. Hang to dry — mats should always be dry before returning to service

Commercial Laundering (nitrile backing only): Follow M+A’s laundering instructions. Use low pH non-ionic detergents. Do not exceed 180°F basket temperature. Lay mats flat after washing; allow cooling before rolling.

FAQs

Is ColorStar better than nylon carpeted mats?
For stain and fade resistance, yes. PET fiber naturally resists stains better than nylon and holds color better over time. However, nylon mats like Classic Solutions offer excellent durability and may be preferred for traditional commercial applications.

Can I use ColorStar outdoors?
ColorStar is designed for indoor use. It can be used in covered outdoor areas protected from direct rain and snow, but performs best indoors.

How do I choose between SBR and nitrile backing?
Choose SBR for budget-conscious applications where commercial laundering isn’t needed. Choose nitrile if you’ll launder your mats, if they’ll be exposed to oils/grease, or if you need maximum dimensional stability.

How many plastic bottles does each mat save?
Approximately 25-30 bottles per 3’x5′ mat. Larger mats save proportionally more.
