Hog Heaven Electrically Conductive Mat

Price range: $164.95 through $307.95

In critical electronics environments, passive ESD protection isn’t enough. You need verified, active grounding that connects workers directly to your facility’s ground system. That’s what separates Hog Heaven Electrically Conductive from standard anti-fatigue mats.

Every mat includes a ground wire and snap that connects directly to a building ground point. This creates a continuous path to earth ground, actively draining static charge rather than relying on passive dissipation through the floor. For semiconductor fabrication, circuit board assembly, and sensitive component handling, this active grounding is essential.

Same bulletproof Hog Heaven construction: solid nitrile rubber surface tested to 1800°F, permanently molded cushion, NFSI certified traction. Meets ASTM/ESD S20.20 and S7.1 requirements. OSHA yellow border option available.

Description

Why Hog Heaven Electrically Conductive Mat?

Standard Hog Heaven mats are rated as electrically conductive and work well for general ESD-sensitive areas. But in critical electronics environments — semiconductor fabrication, circuit board assembly, sensitive component testing — you need more than passive ESD protection. You need active, verified grounding.

That’s the difference with Hog Heaven Electrically Conductive.

Every mat includes a ground wire and snap that creates a direct connection to your facility’s building ground. This isn’t passive dissipation through the floor surface. This is active grounding — a continuous, verifiable path to earth ground that actively drains static charge from workers and equipment.

The nitrile rubber surface is engineered to be electrically conductive with a resistance of 2.6-3.0 x 10⁵ ohms. Combined with the grounding wire, this creates a complete static control system that meets ASTM/ESD S20.20 and S7.1 requirements for static-sensitive environments.

Everything else is pure Hog Heaven: solid nitrile rubber surface tested to 1800°F for welding. Grease-proof, oil-proof, chemical resistant. High-density nitrile/PVC cushion permanently molded to the surface. Flexible borders that won’t crack or curl. NFSI certified high-traction.

For facilities where ESD damage costs thousands per incident, the ground wire makes all the difference.

Active Grounding vs Passive ESD

Feature Passive ESD (Standard Hog Heaven) Active Grounding (Electrically Conductive)
ESD Resistance 2.6-3.0 x 10⁵ ohms 2.6-3.0 x 10⁵ ohms
Ground Connection Drains to floor surface Direct connection to building ground
Ground Wire Not included Included with snap
Verification Cannot verify grounding Can verify with ground continuity tester
Best For General ESD-sensitive areas Critical electronics, verified grounding required
Cost Standard Premium

Choose Standard Hog Heaven when ESD awareness is important but passive protection is sufficient.

Choose Electrically Conductive when your facility requires verified, active grounding to earth ground — typically semiconductor, aerospace, medical device, and defense electronics.

Grounding Installation

  1. Locate the ground snap on the mat corner
  2. Connect the included ground wire to the snap
  3. Route the ground wire to a verified building ground point (ground bar, grounded outlet, or designated ESD ground)
  4. Verify continuity with a ground resistance tester
  5. Document grounding in your ESD control plan

Note: Grounding requirements vary by facility. Consult your ESD coordinator or facility manager for proper grounding procedures.

FAQs

What’s the difference between this and standard Hog Heaven?
Both have the same ESD resistance rating (2.6-3.0 x 10⁵ ohms). The difference is the ground wire and snap included with Electrically Conductive. This provides active, verified grounding to building ground rather than passive dissipation through the floor.

When do I need active grounding vs passive ESD?
Active grounding is required when your ESD control plan specifies verified grounding, or when working with highly sensitive components like semiconductors, aerospace electronics, or medical devices. Passive ESD (standard Hog Heaven) is sufficient for general electronics assembly where some ESD awareness is needed but critical grounding isn’t required.

How do I connect the ground wire?
Connect the ground wire to the snap on the mat corner, then route to a verified building ground point — typically a ground bar, grounded outlet, or designated ESD ground. Verify continuity with a resistance tester and document in your ESD control plan.

Is this mat welding safe like standard Hog Heaven?
Yes. Same 100% nitrile rubber surface tested to 1800°F for welding and slag resistance.

Why are there only 2 size options?
Electrically Conductive mats are manufactured specifically for ESD applications with integrated grounding components. The 3’x5′ and 4’x6′ sizes cover most individual workstation needs. For larger areas, contact us for custom solutions.

Can I use this without connecting the ground wire?
Yes, it will function like standard Hog Heaven with passive ESD properties. However, you’re paying for the grounding capability — if you don’t need active grounding, standard Hog Heaven is more cost-effective.

Does this meet clean room requirements?
The mat itself is suitable for ESD-controlled clean rooms. However, clean room suitability depends on your specific particle and contamination requirements. Consult your facility specifications.
